I’m a Soul, Man

There are many ideas of what constitutes a person’s “soul” and where it comes from. There is at least one group “The Ch--ch of J---- C----- of Latter-Day Saints” (a.k.a. Mormons) that believe that the “soul” pre-exists long before birth and then continues on after the body dies. What is the truth? Do we HAVE a “soul” or ARE we a “soul?” Just where did we come from, where are we at, and where are we going?

The easiest of these three questions to answer is the second: “Where are we at?” The answer, not obvious to all, is that we are RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. We are not someone’s dream or some computer program running its’ course. This is the reality that the Creator brought into being, where he created Adam and later Eve, and it is from them that we descend.

It is from the act of the creation of Adam that we can answer the previous question “Where did we come from?” Did Adam pre-exist as a “soul” without a physical body?

Genesis 1: 26 - 27 (on the sixth day of creation)

“And Elohim said, Let us make man in our image,

after our likeness: and let them have dominion over

the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens,

and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over

every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. And

Elohim created man in his own image, in the image

of Elohim created he him; male and female created

he them.” (T.S.S., emphases mine)

Genesis 2: 7

“And Yahweh Elohim formed man of the dust of the

ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.” (T.S.S., emphases mine)

What we have here is: man was created from the dust of this planet, using the image/likeness of Elohim as a template. Only after the body of Adam was created, and after Yahweh Elohim breathed into Adam’s nostrils (the first recorded used of CPR) did Adam become a living soul. There is neither statement nor hint that Adam HAD a soul; he BECAME one upon his earthly creation. There is no indication of Adam having ever pre-existed, much less ever having a pre-earthly relationship with Yahweh. Yahweh created Adam from the elements of the earth. The word “soul” is # 5315 in Strong’s Concordance: “nephesh” a breathing creature; and is translated in the K.J.V. as “body,”“ breath,” “fish,” dead,” “man,” “mortally,” etc. It in no way implies that it is a separate, immortal entity within a person.

What about Psalm 139: 16?

“Your eyes did see my unformed substance;

And in your book they were all written,

Even the days that were ordained for me,

When as yet there was none of them.” (T.S.S., emphases mine)

We need only go back to Genesis 1: 26 - 27. Our genetic code is the blueprint that dictates what and who we are, and how long we will live under ideal conditions when we come into being (conception); the template for the blueprint being the image (Strong's H6764 of Elohim that was used in the creation of Adam.

We can see from just this evidence alone that WE did not pre-exist with Yahweh and then were “sent” here for some purpose. No, we were created from the materials of this planet and came into being only upon conception. The ONLY ONE who can claim pre-existence is Yahshua the Messiah: see the first chapter of the Epistle of John.

Well, if we did not exist in negative eternity (before NOW) then surely we have an immortal soul from conception and on into positive eternity (after NOW), right? Short answer: WRONG! In order to be brief a FEW scriptures are submitted for your inspection:

John 3: 13

“And no one has ascended into heaven, but he that

descended out of heaven, even the Son of man, who

is in heaven.”(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Acts 2: 34

“For David ascended not into the heavens: but says

of himself ...” (T.S.S., emphases mine)

Genesis 28: 12

“And he dreamed, and behold, a ladder set up on the

earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold,

the angels of Elohim ascending and descending on

it.”(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Conclusion: in order to ascend into heaven you must first have originated from there, and as we have seen WE have not.

Psalm 146: 4

“His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth:

In that very day his thoughts perish.”(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Psalm 30: 9

“What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit?

Shall the dust praise you? Shall it declare the truth?”(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Psalm 88: 10

“Will you show wonders to the dead?

Shall they that are deceased arise and praise you?”(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Psalm 115: 17

“The dead praise not Yah,

Neither any that go down into silence.”(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Psalm 146: 2

“While I live I will praise Yahweh:

I will sing praises to my Elohim while I have any being.”

Isaiah 38: 18 - 19

“For Sheol cannot praise you, death cannot celebrate you:

They that go down into the pit cannot hope in your truth.

The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do this day.”

Conclusion: When you’re dead, you’re dead. No conscience, no senses, just dead.

Finally Romans 6:23

“For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of Yahweh

is eternal life in the Messiah Yahshua our Master.”

Conclusion: Since you cannot be “given” what you already have, and, eternal life is a gift of Yahweh (as conditioned upon remaining in the Messiah), we cannot already have eternal life; therefore eternal life is yet to come.

Where did this falsehood originate? Look at Genesis 2: 17 and Genesis 3: 4

Genesis 2: 17 (Yahweh speaking): “but of the tree of knowing

the good and [knowing the] evil, you shall eat of it: for in

the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” {better translated “Dying you shall die.”}(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Genesis 3: 4 (Satan speaking): “And the serpent said unto the

woman, You shall not surely die:” {better translated “Dying

you shall not die.”}(T.S.S., emphases mine)

Those who preach that we DO have, or ever DID have an immortal soul are preaching a Satanic inspired deceit (themselves often deceived into believing lies). If a person is to have eternal life it will only be after they have been judged to be able to handle it. Otherwise eternal death, the eternal absence of being, will be the ultimate result. Please see Revelation 20 and 22: 14 - 19.

Not only does the so called “Ch--ch of J---- C----- of Latter-Day Saints” fall short of true doctrines (this being but one set), but also any denomination, group, congregation, individual, etc. that proclaim that we are/have an immortal soul (at this time and/or without qualification) are in the same Satan originated falsehood. Because of the brevity of this study we cannot go into all the ancient beliefs that proclaimed this falsehood, suffice it to say that it started even before ancient Egypt
