This is the feeling of uncomfortable tension which comes from holding two conflicting thoughts in the mind at the same time.

Dissonance increases with:

1. The importance of the subject to us.
2. How strongly the dissonant thoughts conflict.
3. Our inability to rationalize and explain away the conflict.

Dissonance is often strong when we believe something about ourselves and then do something against that belief. If I believe I am good but do something bad, then the discomfort I feel as a result is cognitive dissonance.

Cognitive dissonance is a very powerful motivator which will often lead us to change one or other of the conflicting belief or action. The discomfort often feels like a tension between the two opposing thoughts. To release the tension we can take one of three actions:

1. Change our behavior.
2. Justify our behavior by changing the conflicting cognition.
3. Justify our behavior by adding new cognitions.

Cognitive dissonance - distress caused by inconsistency between a person's two beliefs, or a belief and an action. This distress becomes motivation to change the BELIEF.

Selective Exposure - the principle that individuals only pay attention to ideas they ALREADY believe because discrepant information would lead to mental distress.

Post Decision Dissonance - distress as a result of doubts about a decision AFTER the decision has been made. The result is a need for reassurance. Generally the higher the importance of the decision, the greater the need for reassurance.

Minimal Justification Hypothesis - The idea that the best way to achieve attitude change is to offer just enough reward or punishment to elicit compliance.

Cognitive Dissonance: Progress on a Pivotal Theory in Social Psychology
Edited by Eddie Harmon-Jones and Judson Mills

Chapter 1: An Introduction to Cognitive Dissonance Theory and an Overview of Current Perspectives on the Theory

A little more than 40 years ago, Leon Festinger published A Theory of Cognitive Dissonance (1957). Festinger's theory of cognitive dissonance has been one of the most influential theories in social psychology (Jones, 1985). It has generated hundreds and hundreds of studies, from which much has been learned about the determinants of attitudes and beliefs, the internalization of values, the consequences of decisions, the effects of disagreement among persons, and other important psychological processes.

As presented by Festinger in 1957, dissonance theory began by postulating that pairs of cognitions (elements of knowledge) can be relevant or irrelevant to one another. If two cognitions are relevant to one another, they are either consonant or dissonant. Two cognitions are consonant if one follows from the other, and they are dissonant if the obverse (opposite) of one cognition follows from the other. The existence of dissonance, being psychologically uncomfortable, motivates the person to reduce the dissonance and leads to avoidance of information likely to increase the dissonance. The greater the magnitude of the dissonance, the greater is the pressure to reduce dissonance.

The magnitude of dissonance between one cognitive element and the remainder of the person's cognitions depends on the number and importance of cognitions that are consonant and dissonant with the one in question. Formally speaking, the magnitude of dissonance equals the number of dissonant cognitions divided by the number of consonant cognitions plus the number of dissonant cognitions. This is referred to as the dissonance ratio. Holding the number and importance of consonant cognitions constant, as the number or importance of dissonant cognitions increases, the magnitude of dissonance increases. Holding the number and importance of dissonant cognitions constant, as the number or importance of consonant cognitions increases, the magnitude of dissonance decreases.

Dissonance can be reduced by removing dissonant cognitions, adding new consonant cognitions, reducing the importance of dissonant cognitions, or increasing the importance of consonant cognitions. The likelihood that a particular cognition will change to reduce dissonance is determined by the resistance to change of the cognition. Cognitions that are less resistant to change will change more readily than cognitions that are more resistant to change. Resistance to change is based on the responsiveness of the cognition to reality and on the extent to which the cognition is consonant with many other cognitions. Resistance to change of a behavioral cognitive element depends on the extent of pain or loss that must be endured and the satisfaction obtained from the behavior.

"He takes the wise in their craftiness, and the counsel of the wily ones is hastened."  Job 5:13

"And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."   Mark 8:15

Now we can subscribe to Ben Franklin's old saying, "Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see."

What am I trying to say with the abovementioned information bites?  Just what does cognitive dissonance have to do to the average individual?  It can be used effectively as a confusion generator.  Too much information to assimilate mentally.  There is just too much propaganda being generated to come to an absolute conclusion!  Therefore?  Confusion!

"Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Yahweh our Elohim, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh our Elohim"  Jeremiah 3:25

What would you estimate the percentage to bethose that really know what is happening in the world today?  I would adventure to say, it would be very small.  Perhaps .000020571%?  If this figure could be considered somewhat viable, this is very minute, considering!  Do you actually know what is going on behind the scenes of Government?  Religion?  Research in various scientific fields?  It would surprise and amaze you to find out.  I will illustrate a particular point in this revealing article.

Let's get some background for this eye-opening dissertation.

Too Many Clues:

... the Trilateral Commission... is intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing control of the political government of the United States.
—Senator Barry Goldwater’

The plot of Agatha Christie’s novel, Murder On The Orient Express, will help you understand the story of The Brotherhood of Darkness. The murder took place on the elegant passenger train that traveled between Istanbul and Paris, linking the mystery of the East with the rationalism of the West . Agatha Christie’s book as eventually  made into a motion picture with Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Martin Balsam, Sean Connery-, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Red- grave, Richard Widmark, and Albert Finney who played the part of Inspector Poirot. Shortly after the movie began, a group of passengers boarded the Orient Express in Istanbul. Among them was Inspector Hercule Poirot, a world-famous Belgian detective, and Mr. Ratchet, a wealthy man traveling with his secretary and butler. Shortly after the train departed, Mr. Ratchet approached Inspector Poirot and told him that someone had threatened to kill him. He offered the Inspector fifteen thousand dollars to protect him until the reached Paris, but inspector Poirot refused. The train entered a tunnel, the movie screen went black, and when the lights came back on, Mr. Ratchet had disappeared. The next morning he as found stabbed to death in his compartment. A railroad official asked Inspector Poirot to solve the crime, so he went to Mr. Ratchets compartment and began searching for clues. Everywhere he looked he found conflicting evidence, and he suddenly realized that the murder scene had been staged to confuse him. At that point he paused, surveyed the crime scene, and commented:

"There are too many clues.”

"In many respects that is what is happening today. We are threatened by terrorism, biological warfare, environmental catastrophe, global warming’, acid rain, water shortages, nuclear attack, aliens from outer space, genetically altered foods, Y2K, new diseases, an imploding social system, rising crime, moral decay, a failing educational system, and dozens of other real or imagined dangers. When we try to determine who, or what, is responsible for our problems, we are overwhelmed with facts and become confused. Psychologists all our condition cognitive dissonance. Pavlov produced a similar state in dogs. He found that if he conditioned them to salivate in response to the sound of a buzzer, then conditioned them to salivate in response to the sound of a bell, and then conditioned them to salivate in response to a third sound, w hen all three sounds where transmitted together, the animals became confused and withdrew from reality.
Pavlov's dogs lived in a Laboratory where they were monitored. We live in a society where almost everything we see, hear, and read is monitored by those who control the media. Before we can confront our problems effectively we must understand that someone, or some group is manipulating our reality. We must free ourselves from their control and discover the truth."   [Quotes from "Brotherhood of Darkness, Dr. Stanley Monteith]

If you were to adventure a guess as to who or what is manipulating the governments of the world, the banking system, the supply allocations, who would you say is responsible?  The one world government concept is nothing new.   Consider Nimrod!  Consider the tower of Babel!  These were in opposition to Almighty Yahweh's government.

"For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird:"  Proverbs 1:17

If you knew what the system manipulators were doing and planning, perhaps you could shed enough light to spoil their plans.  However, their plans are not in plain sight.

Do you understand the Beast system in Revelation 13?  Can you pinpoint or name the "Man of Sin?"   Many Bible believers and Historians have tried to do exactly that!  This Beast system has not been built in the sight of man!  The behind-the-scenes control and manipulation was out of the sight and reach of the earth's human inhabitants!  Just know; that it is now in existence and will be revealed shortly.

What institution, or group of people, would you say has the most profound effect upon the worlds governments?  Is it?

1. Bilderberg Group
2. Roman Catholic Church—
3. Council on Foreign Relations—
4. Elders of Zion—
5. Eurabia—
6. Freemasons—
7. The Illuminati—
8. Islamic-Fascist Axis—
9. Trilateral Commission—
10. United Nations—
11. Council on Foreign Relations—
12. Trilateral Commission—
13. Club of Rome—
14. Federal Reserve System—
15. Illuminati—
16. Knights Templar—
17. Skull & Bones—
18. Thule Society—
19. World Bank & IMF—
20. Jesuits—

Or, perhaps none of the above?  This is only a small list of the so-called "Secret Societies" that have their hands into about everything concerning governments and religion.  All of these groups/societies are contributors to the cognitive dissonance humanity is experiencing now!

If you want a better understanding of those that can and do manipulate the societies of the world, I strongly urge you to read:

"Brotherhood of Darkness, Dr. Stanley Monteith]

Are secret societies controlling the world's destiny?

Why are powerful groups like the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderbergers and others seldom ever mentioned?

Is there a grand conspiracy at work to move the world toward global government and a universal religion?

The Brotherhood of Darkness will answer these questions.

The story told in this book is incredible but true. It is a story of secret societies, how they have directed the course of civilization, and how they influence our lives today.

The average person has been conditioned to reject any thought of such organizations. Very few of us have heard of the esoteric societies and arcane organizations that are discussed in this book. Their existence has been cleverly concealed from public scrutiny, but American surgeon and author, Dr. Stanley Monteith, reveals the amazing facts he discovered in his almost 40 years of international travel, research and tenure in South Africa.

He reveals the identity of the mysterious forces behind the men who rule the world, and why some of our leaders have dedicated their lives to destroying our nation by bringing it under the control of a corporate elite designed to force us to surrender our national sovereignty.

This story could change your life forever. It will change the way you look at the world and inspire you to join the spiritual battle that is currently being waged to determine the course of Western civilization.

An information glut from various sources, can leave the average unmindful individual confused.  More compelling than a good mystery novel, the manipulators can cause severe cognitive dissonance with disinformation tools, commonly called propaganda.  After a time you won't know who or what to believe!  Sending out lie after lie, all the while diverting attention away from themselves, the plan continues unabated to unfold...

"Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, And the spark of his fire shall not shine.
The light shall be dark in his tent, And his lamp above him shall be put out.
The steps of his strength shall be straitened, And his own counsel shall cast him down.
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, And he walks upon the toils.
A gin shall take him by the heel, And a snare shall lay hold on him.
A noose is hid for him in the ground, And a trap for him in the way."
  Job 18:5-10
