YAHSHUA
In part ten of the series Looking For Truth?, we determined the savior's name to be Yahshua; as it was transliterated into the English language. I believe too much emphasis is being placed on language translation by some, where the scriptures are concerned. Why do I say that? It appears that many so called scholars, think they can translate the Bible; or the Sacred Names of Yahweh and Yahshua better than actual scholars, who know and understand the original language of the Bible. I also believe enough good translations exist that remained faithful to the original texts, handed down through the ages. The 1901 American Standard is one of the best translations available. Even better if the Sacred Names are restored to this translation, as they have been in one version. I believe that the Heavenly Father Yahweh; wants everyone on earth to hear and understand the plan of Salvation, that he has written to the human race. In Genesis chapter 11:1 we find the following:
And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. And Yahweh said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do: and now nothing will be withheld from them, which they purpose to do. Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth: and they left off building the city. Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because Yahweh did there confound the language of all the earth: and from there did Yahweh scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. Genesis 11:1-9
Here, Almighty Yahweh could see the human race was up to no good! They wanted to make a name for themselves. He confounded (confused) the language from one language and one speech to many languages, so they could no longer communicate with one another. He then scattered them abroad to keep them from completing their plans.
How many languages exist on earth today? According to an article by Rosemarie Ostler, over 6000.
Rosemarie Ostler
Many linguists predict that at least half of the world's 6,000 or so languages will be dead or dying by the year 2050. Languages are becoming extinct at twice the rate of endangered mammals and four times the rate of endangered birds. If this trend continues, the world of the future could be dominated by a dozen or fewer languages.
Even higher rates of linguistic devastation are possible. Michael Krauss, director of the Alaska Native Language Center, suggests that as many as 90 percent of languages could become moribund or extinct by 2100. According to Krauss, 20 percent to 40 percent of languages are already moribund, and only 5 percent to l0 percent are "safe" in the sense of being widely spoken or having official status. If people "become wise and turn it around," Krauss says, the number of dead or dying languages could be more like 50 percent by 2100 and that's the best-case scenario.
The definition of a healthy language is one that acquires new speakers. No matter how many adults use the language, if it isn't passed to the next generation, its fate is already sealed. Although a language may continue to exist for a long time as a second or ceremonial language, it is moribund as soon as children stop learning it. For example, out of twenty native Alaskan languages, only two are still being learned by children.
Does this present a problem? Can the word of the Most High Yahweh still be understood by the inhabitants of earth? Yes it can! The Bible has been translated into every major language on earth. However, the one problem with these translations, has been deletion of the correct names of Yahweh and Yahshua the Messiah from the texts. On the other hand, never underestimate the power of the Most High Yahweh in any matter! We have a good example of this in the book of Acts.
And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language. And they were all amazed and marveled, saying, Behold, are not all these that speak Galileans? And how hear we, every man in our own language which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of Elohim. And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What does this mean? But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine. Acts2:1-13
Behold, I am Yahweh, the Elohim of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me? Jeremiah 32:27
Yes, Almighty Yahweh changed the one language at the Tower of Babel (confusion) into many languages, (tongues) so the earth's inhabitants could not understand one another. Then in His infinite wisdom and mercy he presented His truth to the nations gathered in Acts Chapter 2. Everyone heard the mighty works of Elohim in their own language. So this is why I do not place too much emphasis on the language barriers we are presented with.
Some (quasi) scholars become obsessed with translating the Hebrew language into English, so the more correct form of Yahweh's word could be clearly understood! The problem with this? The fact; most of these translators do not know the mechanics of the Hebrew language, and end up with wrong translations and transliterations. The attempt to transliterate Yahweh's name for example, using the Tetragrammaton combined with the vowel pointing of Adonai, yielded the hybrid form: Jehovah. This is absolutely incorrect! Pay particular attention to the following quote:
"While inclining to view the pronunciation Yahweh as the more correct way, we have retained the form 'Jehovah' because of the people's familiarity with it since the 14th century. Moreover, it preserves equally with other forms the four letters of the Tetragrammaton JHVH." New World Bible Translation Committee of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Let me stop right here with that! A 14th century familiarity? JHVH? Remember the articles on Yahweh's Name from this series? Looking For Truth? Parts 2 & 3 ? Here we discussed the four letters of Yahweh's name as it was transliterated into English. There is no J or V in Yahweh's name. The yothe is brought across as a Y and the wau is brought across as a W. There is no equivalent for the letter J in Hebrew! The V sound arrives from the softened form of the letter beth. The hardened form of the letter beth is brought across as a B. This fact is ascribed to understanding the vowel system and its' usage in the Hebrew language. Anyway!
The Jehovah's Witnesses will be as follows:
Judging by Urim and Thummim this group fails the test!
THE BLACK STONE!
And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; Elah hath numbered your kingdom, and finished it. TEKEL; You art weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. Daniel 5:25-27
Therefore Hawke judges these people to be in serious false doctrine and you should beware of this organization!
There will come a time when the earth will once again be restored to one language, and that will occur when Yahshua returns to rule.
For then will I turn to the peoples of a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Yahweh, to serve him with one consent. Zephaniah 3:9
You must exercise caution where translation from any language occurs. You must first understand the mechanics of the language you propose to translate! Every language has some rules. Some languages are similar in sounds and language mechanics, for instance Spanish, Portuguese, Puerto Rican, Mexican etc. These are somewhat similar. However pure Castilian Spanish can be hard to understand if someone knows a lesser or slang form of the Spanish language. Italian has some similarities to Spanish also.
So! Exercise caution and be very careful before you present yourself as a know it all when it comes to language translation or transliteration is concerned!
Yours in Messiah,
Hawke
